Austria’s flag carrier, Austrian Airlines, has secured second place in a reliability ranking that assesses how airlines handle delays and cancellations, as published by the passenger rights portal, Flightright.
According to the Flightright-Index 2024, Austrian Airlines (AUA) has relatively few canceled flights and flights delayed by more than fifteen minutes, compared to 20 European airlines.
This positioned AUA second with a rating of 3.25 stars out of a possible five, surpassed only by Transavia France with 3.49 stars. In contrast, major carriers such as British Airways and Lufthansa, AUA’s parent company, received the lowest ratings, at 2.09 and 2.10 respectively, indicating a significant need for service quality and reliability improvement.
Aer Lingus, KLM, and Air Dolomiti also ranked among the lowest.
Flightright assessed reliability by examining delay and cancellation rates.
Ryanair had the fewest cancellations over the past twelve months (0.57 percent), followed by Wizz Air (1 percent), Aer Lingus (1.19 percent), and AUA (1.27 percent).
In terms of delays, AUA, which was significantly affected by strikes in the spring, ranked exactly in the middle – tenth out of twenty airlines with 22.12 percent of flights delayed by more than 15 minutes.
By comparison, British Airways fared much worse, with 43.1 percent of flights delayed by over 15 minutes, followed by Air France with nearly 37 percent.
