Lake Constance (Bodensee) remains the undisputed number one among Austria’s lakes on Instagram in 2024, according to an analysis by APA-Comm, which evaluated the hashtag presence of over 100 Austrian lakes.

The Hallstatt Lake and Gosau Lake, two mountain lakes in Upper Austria, significantly increased their presence in the Top 20 compared to 2018. As of August 2, 2024, Lake Constance had over 2.6 million posts on Instagram, with its location at the intersection of Austria, Switzerland, and Germany contributing to its high hashtag presence. The Bregenz Festival stage, Lake Constance cruises, and Mainau Island were identified as key attractions for photographers.

Wörthersee, with 571,437 posts, became the first entirely Austrian lake to surpass half a million Instagram posts, securing second place in the ranking. The Achensee in Tyrol, popular among water sports enthusiasts for its motorboat ban and ideal wind conditions, saw the most significant increase in attention among Austria’s top 10 lakes, pushing Neusiedler See and Attersee to fourth and fifth place.

Two Upper Austrian mountain lakes, Hallstatt Lake (12th place) and Gosau Lake (16th place), made the most significant gains within the Top 20. Over the past six years, they have experienced a posting boom on Instagram, increasing 324 percent and 371 percent, respectively.
