Austria’s parcel market grew by 7.9% in 2024, reaching 397 million deliveries, with Chinese online retailers driving the increase, according to market researcher Branchenradar.com.

Citing European Commission data, the firm noted that the volume of parcels from China to the EU has more than tripled since 2023. Based on population share, Austria is estimated to have received over 80 million of these parcels.

However, precise figures for Austria are difficult to determine, as shipments from China are typically consolidated in Hungary before reaching their final destination.

What is clear, though, is that all growth in the Austrian parcel market has come from consumer deliveries, while business-to-business shipments have stagnated, Branchenradar.com said on Wednesday.
