Nearly 1.5 million residents in Austria will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections on 29 September, marking a new record.
Recent estimates indicate that 6.34 million Austrian citizens will be eligible to cast their ballots, while 1.49 million residents will be excluded from voting due to a lack of Austrian citizenship.
Of those unable to vote, approximately 760,000 are citizens of other EU countries. These individuals were permitted to vote in the European Parliament elections in June.
At the last parliamentary elections in 2019, the number of voting-age individuals ineligible to vote was 1.19 million.
