A school in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, was evacuated on Friday following an anonymous bomb threat, during a week of similar threats targeting railway stations across Austria.

The threat was made via email against the Otto-Glöckel School, police confirmed. The message arrived around 13:15, a similar time to the railway threats.

Emergency services were on the scene shortly after. The area around the school was cordoned off, but just under two hours later, the all-clear was given. Police could not confirm if any pupils were still in the building at the time of the alarm.

Only on Tuesday, a bomb threat at Linz Central Station led to the transport hub being closed for two hours.

It remains unclear if the threat to the Linz school is connected to the series of threats against the railway stations.

This is not the first time a school has been affected by such threats. In mid-September, a special school in Linz’s Urfahr district was targeted, but the all-clear was given shortly afterwards.

In mid-May, a secondary school in central Linz was also threatened, with 350 people evacuated to safety. No suspicious objects were found during the search by special forces.
