A tram on Line 2 coming from the Marien Bridge derailed on Obere Donaustraße in the morning after colliding with two cars. The two car drivers were slightly injured. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions.
According to police, the crash occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Obere Donaustraße and Lilienbrunngasse, where Line 2 crosses the Marien Bridge into Vienna’s 2nd district. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Both cars were heavily damaged. The two drivers, a 55-year-old man and a 71-year-old man, received initial treatment from Vienna’s professional emergency medical services and were later discharged to home care. The derailed tram was put back on the tracks and towed away by a recovery vehicle from Wiener Linien.

Tram temporarily rerouted
During the emergency response, police closed the Marien Bridge and parts of Obere Donaustraße, leading to temporary traffic diversions and major congestion. To avoid a prolonged interruption of Line 2, subsequent trams were rerouted via the Schweden Bridge. After about two hours, Line 2 resumed its regular route.
