Police have inspected tour buses entering Graz for technical defects during both the first and now the second Advent weekend. During the checks on the first Advent weekend, ten buses with serious defects were prohibited from continuing their journey due to imminent danger, said Fritz Grundnig, spokesperson for the Styria Provincial Police Directorate, in response to APA inquiries about corresponding media reports. Further inspections can be expected.
After an initial inspection on a ramp, suspicious tour buses are transferred to an inspection hall for a more detailed examination. During the first Advent weekend, an additional 70 serious defects were identified on other buses, and corresponding citations were issued. Around 18,000 euros in fines have been imposed with final effect. Results from the second Advent weekend (currently underway) are not yet available, Grundnig said.
The inspections have been conducted in a targeted manner for three years, and it has become clear that they are necessary, Grundnig explained. In addition to bus inspections, alcohol and traffic enforcement checks are also being carried out during the Christmas season.
