Lower Austria: Woman, 36, Found Strangled by Partner in Cellar

A 36-year-old woman was strangled by her partner in Lower Austria. The suspect confessed and was arrested in the Mistelbach district.

Just hours after a suspected femicide in Styria committed by a police officer, a man in Lower Austria confessed to killing his partner. The 36-year-old woman was strangled in a municipality of around 2,000 residents in the Mistelbach district. Her body was found in an earth cellar on the property of her partner.

A witness filed a report at the Mistelbach police station on Tuesday evening. According to police, the witness said he had been called by the 47-year-old suspect, an acquaintance, who informed him about the killing. The suspect reportedly cooperated with officers and led them to the body. The Korneuburg public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy.

Crime on January 5

The partner was arrested and transferred to Korneuburg Prison. During questioning, the 47-year-old stated that he strangled his partner on January 5 following an argument. Police said he fully confessed. According to the Kronen Zeitung, the man was already known to authorities, with repeated past police interventions due to domestic violence.
