In Austria, people with disabilities are entitled to a free digital annual toll sticker—provided they meet the relevant requirements, such as exemption from the motor vehicle insurance tax.
Those eligible no longer need to submit a separate application to the Social Ministry Service. For the license plate of the vehicle registered to the respective person, ASFINAG automatically activates a Digital Annual Vignette, provided all requirements are met. If there is entitlement to a free annual vignette, a free multi-trip toll card for special toll sections on the A9, A10, A13, and S16 highways (not for the A11 Karawanken Highway) is also booked automatically.
ASFINAG’s advice: Contact your motor vehicle liability insurance provider or vehicle registration office directly to activate the free vignette. They will verify the requirements and then arrange activation of your free vignette with ASFINAG. You should also contact your motor vehicle liability insurer or registration office if your license plate changes. Important: There is entitlement to only one Digital Vignette, even if multiple vehicles are registered to the person with a disability.
