A total of five arrests and the seizure of six kilograms of the narcotic Crystal Meth, including the uncovering of a bunker apartment, resulted from the “Kennerblick” of officers of the Vienna Street Crime Task Force (EGS Vienna) three weeks ago. The starting point of the official measures on May 8 was the observation of a suspicious duo in Vienna-Neubau.

According to a press release from the Vienna State Police Directorate, the two men (aged 25 and 33) displayed “drug-scene-typical” behavior when they were observed by EGS officers handling a red cooler bag in Kenyongasse. The 25-year-old then drove by car with the cooler bag into Steinbauergasse in Vienna-Meidling, where another man (39) got into his car and the vehicle left shortly thereafter with a large plastic container. This resulted in the first of five arrests that day, as the 39-year-old was stopped and it turned out he had around one kilogram of Crystal Meth on him.

Suspicion of bunker apartment confirmed by search

The investigation then returned to the starting point Kenyongasse: since the 25-year-old had returned there after the alleged drug handover, investigators suspected they had discovered a so-called bunker apartment. The search of the premises, carried out after consultation with the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed the assumption: a further five kilograms of Crystal Meth and cash amounting to €38,745 were found.

Also in the apartment the day’s four additional arrests were made: alongside the 25-year-old, three other men (also Serbian nationals aged between 25 and 33) were arrested, including the suspect previously seen on the street with the 25-year-old and the red cooler bag.

The EGS operation was not yet over, for in the course of further investigations another apartment was located and searched. There the police seized a further 64.1 grams of narcotics, this time cocaine.
