Four perpetrators blew up an ATM in Gmunden during the night leading into Friday. When their own getaway vehicle was damaged in the blast, they robbed a young man—who had been attending a nearby graduation party—of his car and fled with it. A large-scale manhunt has been launched.

At around 2:45 a.m., the suspects detonated a cash machine inside a bank branch at a shopping center. The explosion severely damaged not only the bank foyer but also the getaway car, a vehicle with Dutch license plates. The suspects fled the scene on foot—without any loot.

High School Graduates Threatened and Robbed

A few hundred meters away, a graduation party was underway. There, the four masked men, armed with a knife, first attempted to steal a car from three young women. When this failed, they threatened a young man attending the celebration and forced him at knifepoint to hand over his car keys.

The suspects then fled in the young man’s gray VW Tiguan. Initially bearing Gmunden license plates, the vehicle may now be using yellow Dutch plates, according to police.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

The Upper Austria State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation. Police are asking the public to immediately call emergency services or contact the Criminal Police Office (Phone: 059133/403388) if the getaway car is spotted.
