Stores Open in Vienna on Dec. 8: Full List of Hours for 2025

On Monday, December 8, 2025, the public holiday of the Immaculate Conception once again falls—traditionally one of the most important shopping days of the Advent season. Although it is a public holiday, shops in Austria are permitted to open on this day.

Many retailers use December 8 each year to boost Christmas sales. For many Viennese, the shopping day also offers a convenient opportunity to buy gifts or prepare for the holidays.

As in previous years, numerous supermarkets, shopping centers, fashion chains, electronics stores, furniture stores and DIY stores will open their doors on December 8, 2025. The legally permitted opening hours are, as usual, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Anyone wishing to send letters or parcels must wait a day longer, since all post offices will be closed due to the holiday.

All Vienna shopping centers (as well as many shops on major shopping streets) will be open on December 8, 2025, with the legally restricted opening hours:
