
A man was seriously injured by gunshots in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Monday afternoon. Police, who responded with a large deployment, found the injured man in the area of Arbeiterstrandbadstraße. The suspected perpetrator, a 52-year-old Austrian man, was arrested shortly afterward in a single-family home on Sandrockgasse. The background of the incident remains unclear.
In the late afternoon, police declared the operation finished on X. The cordons around the area were lifted, although closures may still occur in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene.
After several witnesses reported one or more shots, police arrived at the scene with support from WEGA and found the injured individual. According to initial investigations, the suspect likely shot the victim in the legs. There was no life-threatening condition.
Several Weapons Found
Shortly afterward, police apprehended the suspected shooter in his single-family home. Officers surrounded the house, after which the man surrendered. Several weapons were found inside the residence, all of which were legally owned by the suspect. The suspect’s elderly mother was also found at the home.
There was no information about the motive as of the afternoon. The victim is not believed to be related to the detained suspect. Police ruled out a terrorist or extremist background.
