A 25-year-old woman was found with life-threatening stab wounds by police in Vienna-Meidling early Thursday morning. Neighbors had previously heard cries for help and alerted emergency services. With the support of the WEGA special unit, officers entered the apartment and found, in addition to the injured woman, a 25-year-old man who was arrested under strong suspicion of committing the crime.
The woman was treated on-site by Vienna’s professional emergency services and taken to the shock room of a hospital. “Her life is in danger,” the Vienna Police Directorate said Thursday. The suspected weapon, a kitchen knife, was secured.
The suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident and was treated at a hospital. The 25-year-old Austrian man was then taken into police custody. The motive remains unclear, though a domestic dispute has not been ruled out.
