Carinthia: Two Drownings in Lakes Over the Weekend

Two people—a woman and a man—drowned in Carinthian lakes over the weekend; police and rescue teams recovered both bodies after searches with helicopters.

Over the weekend, two people drowned in Carinthian lakes, a spokesperson for the Carinthia Police Directorate confirmed to APA. In one case, an 86-year-old woman could only be recovered dead from Lake Flatschach near Feldkirchen. At the St. Johann im Rosental bathing lake (Klagenfurt-Land district), a 60-year-old man from Klagenfurt drowned on Saturday evening.

On Sunday around 7:30 AM, a lifeguard found clothing, money, personal items, and a car key on the sunbathing lawn and alerted police. Several local fire brigades, water-rescue teams, and police searched with the support of a helicopter and drones for the missing man. Around 11:20 AM, divers located the 60-year-old lifeless at the bottom of the lake and recovered the body.
