In the district of Neusiedl am See, a 21-year-old man attempted to kill his father with an axe on Monday afternoon. Police intervened in time and persuaded the young man to leave the house. No one was injured, the Burgenland State Police Directorate reported Tuesday. The 21-year-old was arrested and transferred to the Eisenstadt correctional facility on Tuesday afternoon. Family disputes were cited as the motive for the act.
The emergency call reached police around 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The 52-year-old father stated that his son had run toward him with a raised axe and threatened to strike him. According to a spokeswoman for the State Police Directorate, the suspect’s mother was also present at the scene.
When police arrived, the suspect was still inside the house but left when ordered by the officers. He was arrested without resistance. An immediate restraining and contact ban, as well as a weapons ban, were imposed.
On Tuesday morning, the young man was questioned by the State Criminal Police Office and in the early afternoon was taken to the Eisenstadt correctional facility, where pre-trial detention was placed in prospect, according to APA. The act is believed to have been triggered by longstanding family disputes.
