This year’s spring campaign by Vienna’s municipal waste management department, MA 48, titled “Vienna Cleans Up,” will begin on Monday, April 20. For two weeks, volunteers can help keep the city clean on sidewalks, playgrounds, and green spaces. Those who wish to participate can register and will receive high-visibility vests, gloves, and trash bags. The collected waste—whether residual waste or recyclables—will be picked up by MA 48 teams. Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky emphasized that campaigns like this make a significant contribution to keeping Vienna clean and thanked all volunteers. Further information and registration details are available online through MA 48.

At the same time, stricter penalties for violations of Vienna’s Cleanliness Ordinance will take effect on April 1. Anyone who carelessly leaves trash behind or fails to remove dog waste will now face a fine of €70 (previously €50). Illegally dumped bulky waste can lead to reports and fines of up to €1,000. The city’s Waste Watchers are responsible for inspections, guidance, and issuing penalties, with collected fines directly funding additional cleanliness measures.
