Vienna Marathon 2026: All Road Closures

The Vienna City Marathon will take place on April 19, 2026. 49.000 runners will gather at the start line and run through Vienna. The route takes the runners past many of the city’s highlights. From the start at the Vienna International Center – UNO-City, through the Vienna Prater, past the Vienna State Opera and Schönbrunn Palace to the finish on the Ringstrasse between the Burgtheater and City Hall: participants will enjoy this unique sightseeing tour through the musical and cultural metropolis of Vienna.

The classic marathon over 26.2 miles, a half-marathon and a relay marathon for teams of four will take place on Sunday, 19 April 2026. On Saturday, April 18, it’s all about “Exercise for All” with side runs for young and old. 

Major Closures Across the City

Several main arteries will be affected, including:

• • Wagramer Straße toward Reichsbrücke (inbound) from Erzherzog-Karl-Straße: 4:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Reichsbrücke toward Erzherzog-Karl-Straße (outbound): 5:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Arbeiterstrandbadstraße between Brigittenauer Brücke and Wagramer Straße: 5:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
  • A22 exits Donaucity and Reichsbrücke (inbound): 4:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • A22 exits Kagran and B8: 4:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Handelskai ramp to Lassallestraße: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Lassallestraße between Handelskai and Praterstern: 7:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
  • Praterstern: 7:00 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.
  • Praterstraße: 7:00 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.

Bridges and Danube canal routes will also be affected, including Franzensbrücke, Friedensbrücke, and Reichsbrücke, with staggered closures throughout the day.

Ringstraße and Inner City Impact

Large sections of Ringstraße will be closed:

• • Between Julius-Raab-Platz and Operngasse: 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Between Operngasse and Stadiongasse: 5:45 a.m. to 7:55 p.m.
  • Between Schottengasse and Franz-Josefs-Kai: 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • Between Stadiongasse and Schottengasse: from Friday, April 17, 8:00 p.m. to Sunday, April 19, 8:00 p.m.

Further restrictions will affect Operngasse, Linke Wienzeile, Mariahilfer Straße, Maria-Theresien-Straße, and major Gürtel sections.

Highway and Danube Canal Restrictions

Highway exits and access points will also face closures, including:

• • A23 exits at Knoten Prater (inbound): 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • A4 – Schüttelstraße (inbound) from Knoten Prater and Stadionbrücke: 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Schüttelstraße between Stadionbrücke and Franzensbrücke: 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Franz-Josefs-Kai from Salztorbrücke: 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Additional closures will affect the 2er-Linie, Währinger Straße, and both the Inner and Outer Gürtel at specified times.

Motorists are advised to expect significant traffic disruptions and to use public transportation where possible.
