Austria has been named the friendliest country in Europe in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards by travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller.
Austria scored an impressive 93.88 out of 100 points, according to the magazine’s readers, edging out last year’s winner, Ireland, which took second place, followed by Croatia in third.
“The Austrian ‘Lebensgefühl’ (meaning awareness of life) sums up how locals deeply appreciate their country’s beauty and wholeheartedly invite visitors to take pleasure in it too,” the magazine noted. The country’s natural landscape, with its “abundance of lakes and mountains,” was also praised.
The Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards has been a part of the magazine since its founding in 1987.
