Austria Introduces Home Renovation Bonus

From July 15, individuals in Austria can apply for the Handwerkerbonus, also known as the craftsperson bonus, a financial subsidy designed to assist with renovations within private residences.

The bonus covers work carried out by craftspeople in the home, such as painting, kitchen installation, tiling, window replacement, and more.

Only one application per person per calendar year is allowed. The bonus for 2024 is capped at €2,000 per individual and household, and €1,500 for 2025.

The scheme applies retroactively from March 1 this year, meaning renovation work performed after this date (but not before) can be eligible for the bonus. It will run until December 31, 2025.

Applications for the Handwerkerbonus are submitted online via the website handwerkerbonus.gv.at, using the ID Austria system or by uploading a valid photo ID. You will need a receipt for completed work and confirmation of payment, such as a bank transfer confirmation.

Those residing in Vienna can also apply for a Reparaturbon, or repair voucher, which covers the repair of both electronic and non-electronic household items.
