In the first ten months of 2024, Austria recorded 213,004 new passenger vehicle registrations, up 5.6% – or 11,251 vehicles – compared to the same period last year, according to figures from Statistik Austria.

October alone saw 22,000 new car registrations, an increase of 16.5%. However, registrations of electric vehicles fell by 6.7% year-on-year, with 36,622 electric cars registered in this period.

The general increase in registrations was largely driven by companies, public bodies, and other organisations. According to Statistik Austria, two-thirds of the new registrations were from such entities, reflecting a 4.8% increase, while private registrations rose by 7.2%.

Registrations for petrol cars climbed by 8.5%, whereas diesel car registrations declined by 3.7%. Collectively, petrol and diesel vehicles made up 51.4% of all new registrations.

Meanwhile, alternatively powered vehicles accounted for 48.6% of the market, with hybrid cars forming the majority in this category. Specifically, 54,810 petrol-hybrid vehicles were newly registered, up by 21.7%. Registrations of diesel hybrids held steady at 12,180.
