Austrian Post will begin testing Sunday deliveries from next month, the company announced on Friday.

The pilot scheme is aimed at premium mail order customers and will start in four districts of Vienna: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. If successful, the service will be extended to the rest of the city, followed by the surrounding areas and other provincial capitals in the first half of 2025.

“This is part of Austrian Post’s innovative strength, as we adapt to market needs,” Walter Oblin, the designated CEO of Austrian Post, said in a press release. “In 2015, we introduced Saturday delivery, which has become indispensable today. Now we are taking the next step and trialling Sunday delivery. This not only positions us as a first mover but also aligns market requirements with innovation.”

“By starting in October, we are ideally prepared for the peak season around Black Friday and Christmas, and our recipients will benefit from even faster delivery speeds,” added Peter Umundum, Chief Parcel and Logistics Officer at Austrian Post.

To make sure recipients are not surprised on Sunday, they will receive an email or a notification through the Post App letting them know their parcel will be delivered that day. Austrian Post will use outside transport companies for deliveries, pay a Sunday surcharge, and ensure workers are compensated.
