Another anonymous bomb threat was made on Wednesday, following days of similar alerts across the country, this time targeting a Vienna court, police have confirmed.
The threat against the Vienna Regional Court for Criminal Matters was sent via email.
“There was a large police presence in the building,” court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn said. A significant number of officers searched for any suspicious items floor by floor, with a police service dog also deployed. However, no explosive devices or other dangerous items were discovered.
The search of the court building was completed shortly before 11:00am.
In a separate incident, police in Tyrol revealed that an email containing a bomb threat against two train stations in Innsbruck last week went unnoticed for several hours, following a report in the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper.
As a result, the email was not addressed until after the deadline mentioned in it had expired. Police spokesman Stefan Eder attributed the oversight to “human error,” stating that the affected general email inbox is usually checked regularly.
A subsequent search of the area at Innsbruck’s main and Westbahnhof stations yielded no results. Consequently, the police emphasised that there was no danger to individuals at any time.
In recent days, several bomb threats have occurred throughout Austria, with the Feldkirch station being the latest to be targeted. Earlier this week, the Europark shopping centre in Salzburg, Kepler Street in the Lend district of Graz, and a school in Linz were also affected. Last week, multiple train stations were targeted, including those in Graz, Linz, Salzburg, St. Pölten, Klagenfurt, and Bregenz.
Given the content of the messages, the police believe the same perpetrator is responsible for all cases.
