Train stations in Graz, Linz, Salzburg, St. Pölten, and Klagenfurt have been temporarily closed and evacuated this week due to bomb threats, police confirmed on Thursday.

Graz Central Station was evacuated on Monday evening, along with Ostbahnhof, following an emailed threat. Linz Central Station was affected on Tuesday, with Salzburg Central Station following suit late on Wednesday afternoon. Klagenfurt Central Station was also evacuated on Wednesday after a bomb threat was emailed to the Carinthian Police Directorate around 9:00 p.m. A similar incident occurred later that evening in St. Pölten.

Police believe the same individual is behind all the incidents. Investigations are ongoing, with coordinated efforts between various authorities. If the perpetrator is identified, they could face a multi-year prison sentence.

Limited details have been released due to tactical reasons surrounding the investigation.

It was also revealed that a threat had been made against Vienna Airport on Wednesday around 11 p.m. The threat was submitted to the airport via a contact form. The message was described as “very vague” and provided “very little information,” according to police spokesperson Johann Baumschlager. A formal report has been filed, and detectives from the Schwechat City Police Command are working to identify the sender. “However, we do not believe that the sender poses a genuine threat,” Baumschlager stated. Any connection with the bomb threats targeting the train stations has been “almost certainly” ruled out.
