The cost of Austria’s nationwide KlimaTicket (Climate Ticket) is set to rise from January 1, with the annual pass for all public transport across the country increasing to €1,179.30, up from the current €1,095.

Discounted tickets for young people, seniors, and those with special needs will also see a price increase, rising to €884.20 from the current €821. The Ministry for Climate Protection explained that the pricing of regional Climate Tickets will remain the responsibility of local transport associations in each federal state.

The price adjustment was established in law when the Climate Ticket was introduced in 2021, following the model used for motorway vignettes. From 2025, the price will be adjusted annually, based on changes in Austria’s Consumer Price Index. This year’s increase of 7.7% reflects inflation and rising costs faced by transport operators, according to a ministry statement.

From next year, tickets with a family upgrade – which allows up to four children between the ages of six and 15 to travel – will cost €1,297.80 or €1,002.70, depending on the type.

Customers can still purchase the Climate Ticket at the current price until the end of December, but must select a start date before 1 January 2025. Existing customers will see the updated prices reflected in their renewal invitations if their new tickets are valid in 2025.
