A 21-year-old driver has been caught speeding at 207 km/h on the Inntal motorway (A12) in western Austria – more than double the speed limit.

The man was stopped by police on Saturday evening after an unmarked patrol detected his car travelling at high speed near the town of Karres, where the limit is 100 km/h.

Officers pulled him over at a service turnaround after the Roppen Tunnel. At the time, traffic was heavy with holiday travellers, according to a statement from the regional police directorate.

The driver’s licence was confiscated on the spot, and his car was temporarily seized. He is expected to be reported to the district authorities in Imst.
