Austria experienced a decline in emergency calls in 2024, with 3.9 million calls received on the emergency numbers 112 (EU emergency number) and 133 (police), marking a drop of more than 12% compared to the 4.4 million calls recorded in 2023.

This averages out to over 10,650 calls per day. Nearly 1.36 million operations – or roughly 3,700 a day – were carried out in response to distress calls last year.

These included burglaries, robberies, fights, assaults, attempted murders, shoplifting, road-related incidents as well as missing persons cases and suspected domestic violence or other emergency situations. Additionally, a significant number of incidents involved noise complaints and dispute resolutions.

The Ministry of the Interior released the figures on Monday, ahead of “European Emergency Number Day” on 11 February.
