An accident occurred at the Schönbrunn U4 subway station in Vienna on Tuesday afternoon involving four “subway surfers.” The young men were riding illegally on the roof of a train when two of them collided with a pedestrian bridge as the train entered the station, according to Wiener Linien. Emergency services resuscitated one victim and transported another, who was critically injured, to a hospital; a third individual suffered minor injuries.

Initial reports suggested the “subway surfers” had come into contact with the power circuit, but Wiener Linien clarified that there is no overhead line in that area.

The four young men, believed to be around 20 years old, were illegally riding on top of the subway coming from Hütteldorf shortly after 4:00 PM, as reported by Wiener Linien. Two of them hit a pedestrian bridge while entering the Schönbrunn station and sustained life-threatening injuries. One “surfer” emerged with minor injuries, while the fourth appeared unharmed. The subway driver is currently receiving psychological support. Service on the U4 line was temporarily halted between Meidling Hauptstraße and Braunschweiggasse.
