A pop-up shop at Vienna’s Millennium City shopping centre is drawing crowds with its unique sale of lost parcels, sold purely by weight and without any hint of what’s inside.

Shoppers won’t know whether they are getting clothes, cutlery, electronics or something else entirely until they open their mystery purchase.

Despite the uncertainty, demand has been high, with customers queuing for hours. The sale, run by a company called King Colis, has recorded some 1,500 visitors each day since opening on Tuesday.

The pop-up, located in the shopping centre’s atrium, is open daily from 9:30 to 20:00 and will run until Saturday.

Some parcels reportedly contain mobile phones, while one even held a gold bar. Items are priced at €2 per 100 grams, or €20 per kilogram, with a total of 10 tonnes of parcels up for sale.

Where do the parcels come from?

Speaking to The International, King Colis employee Antoine said that the company buys undelivered parcels from various sources, including Amazon, and resells them. Previously, these parcels – left undelivered due to incorrect addresses or customers relocating – would end up in warehouses and eventually be destroyed.
