The environmental activist group Last Generation Austria announced on Tuesday that it is dissolving and bringing an end to its protests.
“As of today, we are ending our protests and Last Generation Austria,” the group stated in a press release. “We no longer see any prospects for success.”
The group’s remaining funds will be allocated to cover the costs of criminal proceedings against its members. “Our donation channels will remain open because we still have high fines and significant legal costs outstanding,” the press release added.
“There will be new projects of resistance,” the group’s spokesperson, Marina Hagen-Canaval, said.
In their campaign efforts, Last Generation members engaged in road blockades and glued themselves to various surfaces. Among their demands were a 100 km/h speed limit on motorways and a ban on new oil and gas drilling.
In one of their final actions last month, several activists spilled paint and subsequently glued themselves to the floor at Vienna Airport, resulting in multiple arrests.
