ÖBB Launches New Rewards Scheme for Rail Passengers

Austrian Railways (ÖBB) has introduced a loyalty scheme, VorZUGspunkte, allowing passengers to earn points when travelling by train.

Similar to airline frequent flyer programmes, the scheme enables travellers to collect rewards simply by activating an account at oebb.at/vorzugspunkte.

Passengers will receive one VorZUGspunkt for nearly every euro spent on tickets, seat reservations, upgrades, and other ÖBB services. However, purchases of the ÖBB Vorteilscard (Advantage Card) and Klimaticket (Climate Ticket) are excluded.

Free Seat Reservations and Vouchers

Once travellers have accumulated 100 points, they can redeem them for a range of rewards, which will change each year. At launch, options include a free seat reservation (normally €3), a hot drink in the onboard bistro or ÖBB vouchers worth €5 or €10.

Frequent travellers will gain additional perks. Vorteilscard holders will earn double points, regardless of whether they book reduced fares, Sparschiene tickets or international journeys. Klimaticket Österreich holders will also receive double points on reservations, upgrades and cross-border travel.

Passengers who collect 800 points will qualify for Goldschiene status, unlocking further benefits. Those with a Klimaticket can also gain extra advantages when using ÖBB’s SimplyGo! service.
