Immigration (37%), healthcare (31%) and inflation (30%) top the list of concerns among the Austrian public, according to a recent survey.
Crime and violence (29%) follow closely behind in fourth place, the survey by market research institute Ipsos showed. In addition, 80% of the population believes Austria is heading in the wrong economic direction.
The survey, conducted in October 2024, shows that while concerns about immigration have slightly decreased since September, it remains the most pressing issue for the Austrian public. In contrast, climate change (17%) is a worry for fewer than one in five people, having dropped by 3% compared to the previous month. Ipsos speculated that the extreme weather events of September may have been forgotten.
The “What Worries the World” survey, which included 800 participants, also shows that the majority of people in Austria view the country’s current economic situation as poor. 15% of the population describe it as very bad, while 55% consider it rather bad, a sentiment that spans all demographic groups.
