The 15th edition of Popfest, one of Austria’s main music festivals, will begin on Thursday evening with a concert at Karlsplatz in Vienna.
The festival, showcasing local pop, punk and indie music, will run until Sunday, featuring over 50 acts.
Kicking off the festivities is Popfest veteran Nino von Wien, who was one of the opening acts at the inaugural event in 2011. This year, his performance will start at 6.30 pm on the Seebühne stage, which, as tradition dictates, is situated in the pond in front of the Karlskirche church. The opening night will continue with the Linz punk band Anda Morts, followed by Verified and Oskar Haag & Band on the same stage.
Friday acts include the Viennese trio Sharktank, known for their unique blend of pop, hip-hop, rap and indie, as well as Viji, Lukas Oscar, Filly and Culk, delivering a mix of genres from rock to hyperpop.
The weekend’s offerings include punk and indie rock, with bands such as Baits and Ja, Panik performing on the lake stage on Saturday. Additionally, audiences can enjoy performances by The Laundromat Chicks, Apollo Sissi, and Wolfgang Möstl & The Friends.
Vienna’s recently city museum, Wien Museum, will also host performances in its upper floors and foyer. Acts include emerging talents Sodl and Beaks, as well as Anna Mabo and the Hochzeitskapelle. The museum will also offer free music workshops, though registration is required.
All venues are conveniently located in and around Karlsplatz. The Technical University, Club U, and Karlskirche will be transformed into vibrant hotspots for the local music scene. Both the university and the nightclub will host late-night Popfest events.
The festival will conclude on Sunday evening with performances by Lino Camilo, Aze, and Kin Dread, bringing an end to this year’s celebration of local musical talent.
