The remains of a German ski tourist who went missing in Tyrol in 1967 have been discovered in the Rotmoostal near the Alpine town of Sölden, police have announced.
Experts from Innsbruck’s Institute of Forensic Medicine confirmed that a lower leg and foot found during a recent search belong to the 30-year-old man from Baden-Württemberg.
The man is believed to have fallen into a glacier crevasse at around 3,200 metres above sea level in the area known as Wasserfallferner, where he had been missing ever since. In late August 2024, several bones, including the lower leg and foot, were found in the Gurgl district, at an altitude of 2,459 metres. Police recovered the remains and handed them over to forensic experts for analysis. Authorities have said there are no surviving relatives of the man.
