Repair Bonus Paused as €130 Million Budget Runs Dry

The repair bonus can no longer be claimed as of now. The funds provided for it have been exhausted, the Climate Ministry announced on Monday in a press release. Repair vouchers already issued, however, remain valid and can be redeemed at a partner business within the three-week period. The resumption of the funding program is to take place later this year.

The funding stop does not mean the end of the repair bonus, emphasized Climate Minister Norbert Totschnig (ÖVP). The program will now be evaluated so that the money “can be used even more targetedly and efficiently in the future.” Since 2022, around €130 million from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility has been available for the repair bonus. Federal funds were added to this. Despite the strained budget situation, it is assumed that money for the incentive will continue to be available in the future, the ministry told APA on request.

Since the start of funding in 2022, around 1.7 million vouchers for a repair, service, or maintenance of their electrical and electronic devices and bicycles have been redeemed. Smartphones, dishwashers, washing machines, and coffee machines were repaired particularly often by the roughly 6,000 partner businesses.
