A so-called “risk wolf” has been shot in East Tyrol after authorities approved its culling last week, the Tyrolean regional government has confirmed.
The animal had been seen in residential areas of Sillian and Heinfels, and a roe deer carcass, thought to have been killed by the wolf, was discovered near a house.
Officials issued the shooting order on Thursday, which was “promptly carried out” by local hunters. The order will now be revoked, the regional government said.
The wolf has been sent to Innsbruck for examination by AGES, Austria’s Agency for Health and Food Safety.
Residents have been asked to report any further sightings via the regional government’s online reporting form.
