SPÖ and NEOS have in Vienna on a renew edition of their cooperation agreed. Their contents presents the coalition on Tuesday at 12:30 in the Coat-of-Arms Hall of the City Hall, was said on the part of the SPÖ to the APA. To appear will Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling (NEOS). The new city government members should, however, not yet be presented on Tuesday.

Unlike in the turbulent negotiations at the federal level at the beginning of the year, from the negotiations in Vienna little has leaked content-wise. Also is not yet known how many persons will sit in the City Senate. With the NEOS govern the city Reds already since 2020. The result of the Vienna election on April 27 enables the two parties a continuation of the cooperation. Excited one can be about whether the city chief on Tuesday again a huge pink punch pastry will serve, as it was the case at the presentation in 2020.

Also committees must still agree

The city government members must likely at latest on Wednesday be fixed, because then the SPÖ committees should agree to the package. Also the NEOS will still over the alliance deliberate. Here are the organizational challenges, however, greater. Because the NEOS must for this convene a state members’ assembly, at which theoretically all members may participate. The meeting should on the Pentecost weekend take place. As most likely date is considered Saturday.

Constituent meeting after Pentecost

Red and Pink have in the Vienna election together slightly gained. The SPÖ lost slightly and came to just under 40 percent. The NEOS managed in turn to clear the 10-percent hurdle. The small overall plus, which does not even make one percentage point, has not at all translated to seats – on the contrary: The Reds lost three seats in the Municipal Council, the NEOS added two.

The overhang will therefore be smaller. Together they will in the future Municipal Council over 53 (of 100, note) mandates dispose. When this will constitute itself is also still open. It is, however, expected that this will happen quite quickly after Pentecost.
