A man has been arrested following a violent knife attack on an employee at a law firm in Vienna, police have said.
The 56-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the stairwell of the firm’s offices on Landstraßer Hauptstraße on Monday afternoon. She was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in a stable condition, police spokesman David Pawlik said.
The suspect, a 53-year-old client of the firm, is alleged to have punched the woman in the courtyard before chasing her inside and attacking her with a knife. Despite her injuries, she managed to reach safety inside the office, where a colleague called the police. Emergency services treated her at the scene before taking her to hospital.
A city-wide manhunt was launched, with police releasing images of the suspect and urging the public to be vigilant.
He was arrested without resistance at 21:13 local time as he approached his home in Vienna-Landstraße and is now being questioned.
