Three upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna have been cancelled following the arrest of two individuals suspected of planning an attack at the stadium.

“Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for the safety of everyone,” organizer Barracuda Music announced on its Instagram channel on Wednesday evening.

All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next ten working days. Further information can be found at https://www.oeticket.com/help/updates/.

On Thursday, Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform the first of her three consecutive sold-out concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium. Estimates had predicted around 170,000 fans for the three events, which are part of Swift’s Eras Tour.

The superstar had been engaging fans and media for weeks, with “Swifties” from many countries travelling to Vienna specifically for the events.

In connection with the attack plans, police arrested a 19-year-old on Wednesday morning in Ternitz (Neunkirchen district). Another arrest was made in Vienna in the afternoon. Speaking at a press conference, Franz Ruf, the Director General for Public Security, said the 19-year-old had “pledged allegiance to IS.” Chemicals were also seized during a house search, which now need to be analysed. Investigations are ongoing.
