An 18-year-old who made a bomb threat on social media against a police station in Vorarlberg last December has been ordered to pay €1,450 for the cost of the police response.
The young man, who was quickly identified and arrested, admitted to making the threat but offered no explanation for his actions.
The incident led to a large-scale police operation, including the mobilisation of special forces and IT investigators. Despite the initial alarm, authorities confirmed that there was no actual danger at any point.
In addition to the cost of the emergency response, the 18-year-old may face further penalties from the court. Under Austrian law, the police are entitled to recover the costs of a false alarm caused by intentional or grossly negligent behaviour.
