
Police have arrested a trio of thieves who have been linked to a total of 100 burglaries across Lower Austria and Vienna, officials announced on Thursday.
The men targeted businesses and catering establishments, where they mainly stole cash and tools. According to police, the total financial loss is estimated to exceed €270,000.
A 27-year-old Iraqi national and a 28-year-old Italian were arrested in Vienna, as reported by the Lower Austria Provincial Police Directorate. They have been remanded in custody at Wiener Neustadt Prison. Both individuals have prior criminal records and had only recently been released from prison.
An accomplice, a 52-year-old Serbian national, was subsequently arrested by order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office and taken into custody in Vienna. While he has denied any involvement, the other two suspects have confessed during interrogation.
The crime scenes spanned the Lower Austrian towns of Wiener Neustadt, Grimmenstein, Aspang-Markt, Wiener Neudorf, and Strasshof an der Nordbahn. In Vienna, the criminals targeted the 6th, 7th, 16th, and 17th districts.
