A policewoman and a policeman have been suspended for allegedly disseminating Nazi and antisemitic content via chat messages, as confirmed by the Vienna State Police Directorate.
The suspensions were enacted on October 20, and disciplinary complaints, along with charges under the Prohibition Act, have been filed against the officers involved.
The messages came to light during investigations into the far-right scene, as reported by profil magazine.
In September, the Burgenland Office for State Protection and Counter-Terrorism (LSE) conducted investigations and seized the mobile phone of a civilian, according to the Vienna police. On the device, Nazi and antisemitic texts and images were discovered, which had been both forwarded and received.
The Eisenstadt public prosecutor subsequently ordered the seizure and examination of the mobile phone belonging to a member of the Vienna State Police Directorate in connection with the contacts associated with the chat messages.
During the evaluations, another officer from the Vienna police was also provisionally suspended.
