Following the fire on Vienna’s U1 metro line, the subway is now back to normal operations. “Starting immediately, the U1 line is once again running continuously between Leopoldau and Oberlaa for you. We thank you for your patience and wish you a pleasant journey!” announced Wiener Linien to APA early Friday morning. The fire occurred early last week in the middle of a special train with six carriages—without passengers.

The train had come to a burning halt in the tunnel between the Taubstummengasse and Südtiroler Platz/Hauptbahnhof stations. Since then, operations had been limited. The subway was only running between Oberlaa and Reumannplatz as well as between Schwedenplatz and Leopoldau. Stations from Keplerplatz to Stephansplatz were not being served.
