Vienna Airport has filed a lawsuit against twelve climate activists from the group Last Generation, seeking €36,000 in damages for disruptions caused on July 24 and 27. This amount is significantly lower than the previously anticipated six-figure damage claim.
The lawsuit breaks down the claim into two parts: €3,000 for the disruption on July 24 and the remaining amount for the incident on July 27. The airport cites expenses for cleaning, repairing damage, and additional security personnel needed to maintain safe operations and order. The lawsuit will be filed at the District Court of Schwechat and the Regional Court in Korneuburg.
Earlier reports, including one by Kronen Zeitung, suggested much more damage. The airport has confirmed that the current claim reflects the costs incurred due to the unauthorized demonstrations. The activists, who aimed to raise awareness about climate change, spilled paint in the check-in area, among other actions.
