The City of Vienna’s Immigration and Citizenship Department (MA35) has launched a new English-language online assistant to help individuals apply for residence rights in Austria.

Introduced this week, the tool aims to improve service for international applicants and guides users through a multi-step questionnaire with around 60 questions, offering tailored information on the application process.

At the end of the process, users can either book an appointment with the relevant authority or access further details. The website has also been updated to ensure the language is clear and easy to understand.

“The Immigration Online Assistant consists of three main areas: family, education and work. It also covers cases where, for example, individuals wish to transition from asylum status to a residence permit under the Settlement and Residence Act. Through the multi-step questionnaire, users are directed to the most appropriate residence permit and corresponding webpage,” said Vice Mayor and Integration Councillor Christoph Wiederkehr.

Since its original launch in August 2024, the online assistant has seen approximately 7,400 visits.
