Several parks in Vienna were closed on Monday due to a storm warning issued by Geosphere Austria.
The closures included the Augarten, Burggarten and the southern section of Schönbrunn Palace park, specifically the Gloriette Hill woodland area. The Meiereitor and the Maria-Theresia-Gate at Schönbrunn were also shut, as confirmed by the Austrian Federal Gardens.
The storm warning extended to parts of Lower Austria and Burgenland. In Vienna, gusts of wind of up to 87 km/h were recorded. Stronger winds were reported on the Hohe Wand, where speeds reached 93 km/h, and at the Jubiläumswarte, an exposed measurement station 450 metres above sea level, where gusts peaked at 125 km/h.
Authorities have said the storm is expected to ease by evening.
Since the winds began late on Sunday, the Vienna Fire Brigade has responded to 60 incidents potentially linked to the storm, including overturned construction barriers and loose roof tiles.
