Vienna has the densest network of charging stations for electric cars in Austria. There are now 2,800 charging points and around 250 fast-charging stations in the metropolitan area, the city announced on Sunday. Wien Energie operates more than 2,200 of these. Last year, with 1.2 million charging sessions, the milestone of one million was first surpassed.

As a result, electric vehicle drivers in 2024 charged a total of 28 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. This represents an increase of about 40 percent compared to 2023, which corresponds to about 45,000 round trips from Vienna to Paris, according to Wien Energie.

On Sunday, the city government and energy provider promised further expansion. This also applies to the network of public transport.
