Vienna’s first Christmas market of the season will open at Franz-Jonas-Platz in the 21st district, Floridsdorf, on 7 November, as announced by the Vienna Market Authority.
The market at Rathausplatz will follow on November 15, with the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony taking place the next day. This year, the tree will come from Lower Austria. By November 16, all remaining Christmas markets across the city will be open.
According to the Market Authority, a total of 796 stalls, including 190 food and drink huts, will contribute to the festive atmosphere in the Austrian capital. Once again, officials will inspect all food and drink stalls to ensure compliance with hygiene standards, including conducting food samples. Thanks to rigorous checks, there were very few issues reported at last year’s Christmas markets.
