A basement in a residential complex in Hard, Vorarlberg (Bregenz district), caught fire on Saturday evening. According to the police, eleven people were evacuated from all apartments in the building. No injuries were reported. The fire department quickly extinguished the flames. The fire caused damage in the basement unit, but the apartments remained unharmed. The likely cause was an electrical defect in a space heater.
For safety, the fire brigade also broke into a locked common room in the basement to rule out any additional sources of fire. The incident triggered a large-scale emergency response: 40 firefighters with six vehicles, 20 emergency medical personnel with seven ambulances, three police patrols from the Hard and Lauterach stations, and the Hard security unit were all on site.
