Nine-Year-Old Rescued in Neue Donau, in Critical Condition

A 9-year-old boy was rescued from Vienna’s Neue Donau beach after being underwater for minutes. He is in life-threatening condition.

A nine-year-old boy was rescued from the water on Friday after an accident at the family bathing beach Neue Donau in Vienna-Floridsdorf. He is in acute life-threatening condition, reported the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate on Saturday. The Vienna Water Police and divers of the Vienna Professional Fire Department were called together to the scene at around 6:45 p.m. to recover the child who had gone under.

The divers were able to locate the boy at several meters’ depth and rescue him from the water. An emergency doctor of the Vienna Professional Rescue Service took over the emergency medical first aid. Subsequently, the boy was taken to a hospital, where he is receiving intensive medical treatment. There was acute life-threatening danger: According to previous findings, the nine-year-old had already been under water for several minutes.
